Please Consider These Potential New Subs, Volume 1
Part 1: NewSaidits' Proposed Guidelines
Part 2: Potentially Fun Interactive Subs
Should I have split this post into the 2 parts?
Should I have submitted my sub proposals separately (ie. 1/day)?
Obviously I have doubts.
► Part 1 starts with bureaucracy you may find tedious so feel free to skip to the "Potentially Fun Interactive Subs" section below. ◄

Do we really need new subSaidIts?
No and yes and no...
Obviously we don't need more pointless and/or empty subs.
I've been accruing lists for years, for better or worse. On the FAQ & Wikis you can find one of my old Subsaidit Contenders wish list of subSaidIts yet to be created, untouched for about a year, then I obviously updated it a bit 10 months ago (feel free to improve it). I haven't even looked at it since, as I have compiled yet more lists, many repeats many new. Today I present some of the previously unshared, for your consideration and feedback.
If I wished I'd make another sub today, rekindling my glorious empire of new subs to power-mod over - but it's not about me. I only wish to lead by example, proposing things, seeing what sticks to the wall, and inviting people to participate - ideally building our community's indie culture (an alternative solution to banal controlled consumerist corporatocracy pop-culture crap). That's why I didn't create this NewSaidits sub.
I propose we openly:*
1) Present and discuss potential new subs, first, before creating them. Include a description with potential alternative names, concepts, reasons, uses, etc. This description could even be presented as a first draft or mock up of what to expect in the description and/or sidebox, including related subs and links, etc. Feel free to go above and beyond and include banner and/or CSS references.
2) Get enough agreement your proposed subs are even necessary, understanding not everyone will agree. By pitching your ideas you may find you have more or less support than expected.
3) Arrive at an optimum title.
4) Discuss who wants to create and moderate and/or co-moderate the proposed sub.
5) Have the original poster user be final "decider" and declare the final title to avoid confusion and/or redundancy.
6) Come to a conclusion within a reasonable time. I recommend 24 hours, unless there's a lively conversation keeping it on the front page (/s/all) or some other reasons.
These are merely guidelines.
* I wonder if I've used "democracy" and "democratically" too often recently when really I mean: interactively and collaboratively on fair and even ground - a bigger mouthful. Some things may of course be voted on, but we certainly don't need a tyranny of the majority (or rigged "majority").
If we can agree on these proposed terms for /s/NewSaidits (after applying improvement feedback ideas), either current mods may add them to the sidebox, or I can accept their mod invitation for a bit to do it myself, and without any objections I may add a banner sub image (like the thumbnail or subthing). I'd consider making a sublime banner, but I don't see a point at this point. Pointy.
Why bother?
I certainly don't mean any slights to the creator of /s/NewSaidits, I'm very happy it's here, however it's a perfect example case of how, I think, we need organizing guides discussion for better subs. Not just here on SaidIt, but this is practice for a future next-gen forum where I would hope our community might be more collectively interactive in determining the best ways to curate our content and run things.
This nitpicking may not appeal to everyone, but IMO words and labels matter for clarity of communication. I'm not verbose for no reason, as I aim to make myself clear to the people I directly converse with as well as all the readers.
Addressing point #3, /s/NewSaidits is fine, importantly short, but not as clear as it could be like NewSubSaidIts or NewSaidItSubs. I'm also anal about capitals which I'm very glad they used, but they did not capitalize "It" in "SaidIt", my preference. Moreover, the vagueness of this sub title has pros and cons and can be confused with the new subs listed under https://SaidIt.net/subs/new/ and/or /s/DiscoverSaidit for promoting new subs (and possibly more: SaidIt tourism, SaidIt guides, etc., akin to /s/AskSaidIt and /s/SaidItSurveys). /s/NewSaidits could be about all of these and/or about other instances of the SaidIt software being used around the Interwebs, federated or not. There may be potential for more uses for this sub, but problematically we run into sub redundancy with vague intents stretched across too many subs - because of impulsive weak sub titles not thoroughly hashed out.
More specifically, this sub could have been titled /s/SubsWeWant, indicating we = community, want ≠ need, and obviously not created yet, inviting discussion. Being this narrowly focused and specific also has pros and cons. In addition to being too specific I've created other subs I regret, so if anyone cares I could provide more examples of my own limited sub titles to learn from. I'm certainly not free from bad choices. (It's not to late to create the /s/SubsWeWant (or wider and simpler /s/SaidItSubs on all things "subs") and repost this and the other post there, and even copy my old Subsaidit Contenders wish list of subSaidIts yet to be created to the sub's wiki.)
Addressing point #5 (skipping obvious #4), for lack of any other obvious "decider" it makes sense that the community would weigh in to determine the best option(s) and the OP (original post and/or user who originally posted it) could declare the final title and create it or assign a creator. It may even arise that another sub or few may be in order. The original poster may even just propose the issue, topic, and/or sub title and simply hand over their OP responsibility to someone else to be the "decider". All of this is to avoid collective confusion and/or redundant subs with similar titles popping up.
Enough of this tedium. On to the fun...
Potentially Fun Interactive Subs
Sure I have lists of more "Power Corruption & Lies" sub titles and more topical subs, but I want to start with a few of my fun and interactive ideas to show the potential of this /s/NewSaidits, why I inspired someone to create it, and what it could be about, among other things. It's already been a painful and heavy week or few.
While I might hope and expect folks may propose witty, punny, silly, jokey, and perhaps troll-ish sub titles in /s/NewSaidits not to be taken seriously nor created, I am serious about wanting the subs listed below created, because I guarantee you I have plans for most of them.
SaidIt-based interactive community projects I start with hopes we may all participate and consider them ours - worth supporting and growing - a indie-counter-culture resistance to dumbed-down divisive corporatocracy consumerist culture.
"Interactivity" should probably be defined here because I keep throwing this word around. Most subs are for people to post other content and comment react to it and even engage in discussions. I consider that passive info sharing, great for what it does. In contrast, active info creation generated collaboratively is very different, though many aspects appear the same. Additionally some of my proposals below are "normal" passive subs, including some to passively collect info/content to be actively used for projects, often finished externally, to be passively shared.
A little more bureaucracy, overly anal perhaps, but apt for this first example post and open for criticism. Because I do not wish to be mod or co-mod, I hereby declare the first chronological person to mention the sub title becomes the final "decider" (reference the guide's #5 above and a following paragraph details). Many "decider" folks could claim my many ideas or all could be deferred to a single user who mentions all listed. I recommend that 1) once you see the sub(s) you really want, make (separate) comments for them, if only just the working-title to plant the seed, and 2) we try to keep the discussions separate and topical under each seed to follow easier - assuming anyone is even interested.
Full disclosure, I will certainly help if these subs are created however I'm able, but soon I plan to be primarily focusing on other interactive community-building projects on SaidIt that are not current-events-based.
Lastly, I've put underscores in the proposed names below simply for ease of reading. Discuss and decide whether you want them or not.
Without further ado, alphabetically, for your consideration...
Archiving speaks for itself.
I love good ASCII art, including hand made, filtered, and/or with unique characters ( \ˁ°ᴗ°ˀ/ _ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ_ ). I've been saving this one for myself, but I haven't even done a banner for /s/pixelart nor posted my own works yet.
Among others, here are some subs with "art": /s/3DArt, /s/Art, /s/ArtVideos, /s/Cartoons, /s/DelusionalArtists, /s/pixelart, /s/StreetArt, /s/MartialArts
All things Boot-On-Face and Knee-On-Neck related, from deadly serious to lighthearted. This could even be a sub to collect and concentrate George Orwell related content - notably Nineteen Eighty-Four. Perhaps this may even be a good Shoe0nHead fan club too.
All imagery (photos, illustrations, logos, T-shirts, memes, videos, movies, television, documentaries, etc) both with and without text are very welcome. Help to collect them all!
Content from this aggregating sub may be collected and utilized for repurposing, sampling, mashups, etc. - in particular for my forthcoming /s/LeverMind project (explained below). I've already started collecting, years before I even came to SaidIt (which has dramatically distracted and decreased my collecting and organizing projects).
Focused on the life of, interests of, and all things related to Bucky. Geodesic domes, tensegrity, hyperbolic structures, /s/Mathematics, /s/Physics, buckyballs, ergonomics, efficiency, sustainability, environment, thinking outside the box, etc. See also: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buckminster_Fuller
Creating this sub is not really advised, as much as I'd love for there to be one, just as I'd love a /s/MaxHeadroom or /s/HardSciFi sub. I'm sure there are much better dedicated websites and/or Reddit subs on these particular narrow interests of mine.
Ultimately it's about taking control of and growing our own robust lives and futures, rather than under /s/Tyranny.
This is the best name for it I can come up with, but I'm not at all thrilled about it. Maybe it's not that bad. Let us all know and/or pitch better name ideas.
If I thought it was catchy enough I would have created it to share some of my recent posts on the 6 aspects of the Phoenix Forum, seed ideas for fairness and justice on SaidIt, friend-to-friend networks of trust, and resistance via neuro-linguistic counter-programming. I would consider this also related to alternatives, community, /s/Cooperatives, /s/DIY, independence, /s/Solutions, many other subs, and the proposed /s/Fulfillment and/or /s/WellBeing below.
AND it could also be so much more. Perhaps I'm trying to fit too much all under one umbrella.
My own projects aim to be worthy of being related too, though some may be shelved, dusted off and worked on, and others have yet to be explained. All in due time. I share some hints at the end of this post.
I like roughing it, for limited durations. I love clever multitools, /s/gadgets, /s/DIY, /s/OffGrid, etc. There are other related subs too, but I'm too lazy to dig right now. Maybe later.
IMO this should include "glamping", glamourous camping in luxury and/or not very far from civilization. This may include recreational vehicles and activities - or simply cottage life.
I'd love to see a /s/BurningMan sub thriving on SaidIt, but so far as I know I'm the only Burner (not Berner) here. BM folks already have their countless established forums galore (I've even made some more than a dozen years ago), and doubtlessly there are many Burners on Reddit and other social media. However Burning Man is sooo much more than just camping in the desert for a week - it's a whole culture (an anti-cult cult) with countless regionals and sub-communities all in overlapping circles of friends and interests. A Burning Man Venn diagram would be a hellova mess. I try to bring to SaidIt my deeply rooted Burning Man cultural experience of interactive community-based ideas, independence, creativity, DIY, self-reliance, alternative economics, original solutions, and so on.
I would hope this sub might also be open and tolerant of other definitions of "camp" too. Campy films, tacky things and kitchy culture - or even camping it up like you're gay (certainly not everyone's cup of pink Champaign).
As all things must, or, just some spare. The only constant.
Or perhaps it's not yet time for a /s/Change.
What is this sub about? You tell me.
Akin to /s/DIY, but with a team.
Example: Clock Escapement Marble Gate (23:06) ~ Wintergatan
What do you want to find more of that's like what you reference?
- articles
- books
- employment
- games
- ideas
- images
- music
- products
- services
- software
- videos
- etc.
IMO, these are sorely missing from most people's lives and our general discourse. I certainly would have created these subs long ago as they've remained high on my list, yet I've not come across much content on it.
Alternative names/topics: /s/Purpose, /s/My_Purpose, /s/Meaning, /s/Existentialism, etc.
In addition to /s/Activism, /s/alternative, /s/DIY, /s/GetMotivated, /s/Solutions, and others related, here's a list of subs related to growing, food, health, mental health, etc. (Let me know if I missed any.) More related subs: /s/Parenting, /s/Philosophy, and for some: /s/Spirituality, /s/Religion, etc.
All things "gesture" related, from deadly serious to lighthearted, from sign language to reading body language, from the middle finger to the peace sign, from acts of kindness to whatever.
All imagery (photos, illustrations, logos, T-shirts, memes, videos, movies, television, documentaries, etc) both with and without text are very welcome. Help to collect them all!

I've already started collecting, years before I even came to SaidIt (which has dramatically distracted and decreased my collecting and organizing projects).
I have collected many categories of gestures, but among my most impressive is my middle finger collection of video screenshots, primarily from corporate media (movies, TV, documentaries, celebs, politicians, etc). Most of these screenshots via my MPC-HC include the video title, season/date, and importantly the timestamp to be easily referenced for utilizing.
Why? Long before I'd even seen reallygraceful who uses illustrative video clips and such (whom I'd like to emulate in my own way), back to the days of the Daily Show and Colbert Report, I've been building up a political and pop-culture library of clips, references, samples, soundbites, and such. I even prepared a non-encyclopedic InfoGalactic project, "Audio & Video Samples Database" to begin organizing and cross-referencing them all in for the benefit of all editors and the world. The task is just so daunting, especially back then on demotivating "anti"-depressant poisons, that I'd never even started the actual database. Further, I don't know if anyone would have even noticed or cared, so I might as well just make my damn videos and maybe hope someone else builds a database like that for me to mooch from. But then I discovered SaidIt, a new addiction.
Originally I thought this would be /s/If_I_Were_Leader, but realized it's better less narrowly focused.
Hypothetically speaking, for fun or for reals, what would you do if you were leader - of your town, nation, a religion, a corporation, the world, or of SaidIt?
Variants: /s/If_I_Were_A_Billionaire, /s/If_I_Were_A_Celeb, /s/If_I_Were_A_Supermodel, /s/If_I_Were_A_RockStar, etc.
All things "pyramid" related, from deadly serious to lighthearted:
- geometry
- /s/AncientHistory Egypt
- /s/Architecture
- New World Order / Illuminati symbology
- pop-culture Satanists
- imagery (designs, documentaries, illustrations, logos, memes, movies, paintings, photos, tattoos, T-shirts, TV, videos, etc)
- other visual concepts like the Pyramid of Debate - Make up your own and develop it here!
All imagery both with and without text are very welcome. Help to collect them all!

Not just about the underrated movie or The Doors album), "Strange Days" could refer to almost anything: 2020 onward, any odd period in history, the peculiarity of the Earth's rotation, counting down anticipating the next season of [Stranger Things](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stranger_Things(TVseries)), etc.
" May you live in interesting times. "
Wrap Up
Thanks for indulging me and bothering to read this far. I don't need to drone on further as there will be more like this, especially if there's reasonable feedback.
Before concluding here's a glimpse at what I have in store for upcoming posts...
Some of my ideas are for animation and other video projects interactively developed on SaidIt. Naturally all content will be geared toward breaking the illusions of control with liberating ideas, alternative, and solutions. Despite our physical distances, I believe I have some uniquely interesting ideas to help distribute the work among a team, foster community, wider public interest, and different abilities into some creative productions. (Perhaps folks may even support us and/or value/buy original animation frames as collectable beautiful works of art.) Not aiming to be retro, on some of the projects I plan to be "radical" like classic MTV and Monty Python animation - rapid, edgy, and loose (despite my usual efforts to be tight and clean). All of this, and much much more, will be part of my /s/LeverMind Variety Show project pitch.
Then ultimately, after all my pitches have been presented, I will ask the community which of my grand ideas they'd like to see me focus on and develop further first. Importantly all these projects and their developments will be shared on SaidIt, employing as much feedback, collaboration, assistance, etc as possible. Interactive baby! Even some of the animation projects, believe it or not (more on this later). The people will vote on my destiny.
The resistance evolution has started on SaidIt.net.
