Your post was so disappointing. To me, as a third-worlder, your post was basically the equivalent of "But men get raped too"! First-worlders have far more economic, social, and political privilege than third-worlders do, and their governments contribute to the suffering of a significant portion of third-worlders, and thats a fact.

First-world women are comparatively safer than the women in the third-world, so I agree with her. The average woman in Myanmur right now feels absolutely terrified than the average Western woman, and the average Western woman definitely feels far more safer than the average Myanmur woman. This isnt an attack against first-world women, its not their fault that theyre born there, but we're literally being genocided here and getting killed in millions so I literally dont see the qualms in saying we're more oppressed and that our lives value too?

That being said, the fact that it's only women who wear this stuff still seems fishy - the root of the problem is in men's objectification of women, so why is it on women to try to render themselves less likely to be targets of objectification?

I feel like its like carrying a gun, or being segregated from men, or being a feminist in the first place. We'd be destroyed from the get-go if we didnt carry precautions from the get-go.

And female prosperity seems to exclusively come from how wealthy a country becomes (and even that somehow doesnt work - check out the Gulf.) Moreover, given how high and absurd the standards of femininity are, I think merely being a normal human female (i.e. not shaving, not wearing makeup, not being actively thin, having a conveniently short haircut etc.) are sufficient to escape the male gaze, without having to take up practices created by objectively sexist men (e.g. wearing a niqab or burqa).

Men fuck animals, fruits, children. At least the veiling makes it unlikely that they fantasize about you as the person you are, with your features and your body-type and everything, getting raped by someone.

Segregation is pretty based, but the issue is muslim societies don't seem to go far enough (in the end, women still end up married to men and having babies with men, so they drop the segregation pretense when it really matters).

Point number one - it would be helpful for you if you find ways to prevent yourself from getting in a situation where you could be sexually assaulted. It is not victim-blaming. It is advice. You can take it or leave it - we'll still punish assaulters if they hurt you, regardless. But it is still advice for women who would rather not be assaulted - and i fail to see how "it blames the victims" is sufficient enough to stop it from being solid advice that works.

Point number two - your clothing does have a significant factor in making you seen as a target. Why did the elder woman and the infant both have in common? They were seen as weak by men and thereby an easy target. Clothing that can hide a weapon or clothing that makes you appear professional and well-off, has the possibility to be one of the factors that stops you from appearing weak to anyone. Your appearence does matter. A woman who wears a shalwar kameez in Pakistan would be ignored in comparison to a woman wearing a mini-dress. It is unfortunate, but we live amongst men here, which is a tragedy in of itself. Of-course, it is not 100% guaranteed clothing will help you, but depending on the context it could easily be a significant factor that leads to you getting ignored
